So basically it was the first time I've properly used a steering wheel at all and raced against 10 other guys in some hired gaming place. I managed to place consistently in the top 4 over 7 races except for one, which meant that I turned out to be the best driver - pretty funny since some of them actually drive IRL.

That was one where I failed to get a good placing in was when I was leading the race with 10 seconds in a Zonda R, until someone who didn't bother braking in a hairpin on the last lap used me as the 'cushion', causing me to spin out (because mid-engine) and pushed me down to 8th place. That sucked a lot.

What I found funny is that I always had people commenting how I had a really screwed up rear end from people crashing into me at corners. Oh! How fun life is when you're the only clean racer who brakes at the right points.

And from this experience, now I really really want a G27...

Congrats!

If you're looking for proper competition, check out iRacing. Far reduced on the tools using you as their brakes.

I see you did better than I did at GT5. The one time I tried braking according to the "best line" I wound up slamming into a wall. I suppose it's because I have the brake pressure cranked all the way up on my cars in Shift 2...

lol my normal computer can barely run iRacing and I'm not that sure if I'm willing to subscribe monthly (I prefer just buying the game because whenever I get a game, I play it for at least 3 years). I've been playing a bit of rFactor though, just free running by myself.

That's why you pay yearly :) I'm currently on a 2 year sub for $99.

If you're happy just hot lapping, stick with it. If you want to race online, iRacing is absolutely the best value for money.

thanks for the advice!

by the time I upgrade my computer though, there might be more to choose from (you know with Project CARS and stuff). I'll see in a few years time, maybe I'll end up with a cheap PS3 + GT6 combo or something!

Maybe, but again it depends if you're looking to race against people (iRacing) or not. Nobody else is planning anything close to the online licensing system of iRacing, which is why the racing is so clean and competitive there.

And don't forget, iRacing gets big upgrades every 3 months. By the time you upgrade your PC it will be even better :)
